XLOCK have worked with Toyota Finance Australia (TFAL) since 2021, in the supply and operation of 420 smart locks for their lockers at their St Leonards headquarters in Sydney, Australia. XLOCK worked with TCW Furniture who supplied the lockers.

At the time TFAL had an older hard wired lock system in their other building, and were looking for a more modern, wirelessly connected, easy to operate and affordable system. XLOCK’s Bluetooth / WiFi enabled, invisibly mounted Smart Lock system met the brief perfectly.

The project evolved over the subsequent years, implemented via a number of stages.

• Stage 1 – Users were simply accessing their lockers via allocated RFID swipe cards.
• Stage 2 – The implementation of XLOCK’s simple to use Phone App giving the administrators full access to manage all locks and open them as required via Bluetooth.
• Stage 3 – A year later during Covid lockdowns we installed WiFi Gateway terminals adding the ability to remotely unlock the lockers so administrators could open any locker, even if working from home. This included the ability to remotely manage staff parcel pickup/mailbox lockers.
• Stage 4 – Providing users with access to their own lockers via their phones, with permissions easily granted by the administrators.
• Stage 5 – Finally, we began to extract metadata from the app which provided TFAL with locker usage information, valuable for their future planning.
• All the above phases were provided to TFAL at no charge and, as always, there have been no service charges, licence fees or usage charges for the App.

TFAL are moving out of their premises later this year so the locks will be reset, batteries recycled and replaced. They will then be reprogrammed for any new tenant(s) that move into the premises, providing the product a new life for many years to come. The lockers are also relocatable so may suit more than one tenant if required. We look forward to our first project aligning to circular economy principles.
